When we initially moved into our new home with close to nothing to furnish it with, I wanted to decorate it with a plan. I figured I’d start with the areas others would see the most like the living room, dining room, and downstairs bath, and then move my way up to the second floor. I swore to myself that I wouldn’t move onto another room before the previous one was finished or at least presentable. Why? Well the first reason is because it’s a lot easier to coordinate what goes together when I actually buy it together. If I coordinate all the things in my shopping cart while I’m at the store, once I get home, I’ll already know that they look good together rather than just hoping they will. This saves me from having to take a trip back to the store a few days later to return something that “doesn’t go”. The second reason is because if I buy a ton of things that go in separate rooms it will take so much longer for each room to fill up and I’m too impatient for that!
Its been about 6 months since we moved in now and I’m finally moving on up! Sure, there’s still a few more purchases I’d like to make for downstairs, like a buffet table and an area rug for our dining room, but I can wait for those things. To me, our bedroom is more important. This week I worked on getting some night stands to store things like my Melatonin that I absolutely NEED before bed. Without Melatonin I could stay up til sun rise thinking about every unnecessary thing possible…but that’s a topic for another time. I came across these two night stands on a fb sale page (the same one I purchased this couch from) for $20 each. Here’s what they looked like when I bought them:
This is me painting in my dining room, in my husband’s paint suit, at 11 o’clock at night because it was raining outside and I couldn’t just wait til the morning. It’s a pretty regular occurrence in our house lol!
…and here’s what they look like now. I primed and painted them with an oil based paint. I wasn’t able to remove the handles so I drew over them using a gold Sharpie paint marker. It has a few imperfections obviously but I like that about hand painted furniture. What do you guys think?
